About Me
Andrew J Millar is a contemporary artist based in Whitechapel, East London, renowned for his rich and layered works that sit at the intersection of photography and fine art.
The work
Andrew's practice centres on the manipulation of Polaroid photographs, which are chemically treated and then hand-embellished with precious metals including 24ct gold leaf, silver leaf, rose gold and mother of pearl. Each piece begins as a carefully composed instant photograph before being transformed through a process that is part chemical, part craft, entirely unique.
The result is a body of work that has been described as luminous and icon-like — quiet, layered portraits and forms that hold something of the sacred about them. No two pieces are alike.
Exhibitions
Andrew has held solo exhibitions in New York, Barcelona, Paris and Berlin, as well as a six-week solo exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery, London. He has shown at The Other Art Fair in Los Angeles and his work has been featured internationally across galleries and private collections.
In 2024 his work was shown on billboards in Times Square, Piccadilly Circus and Sunset Boulevard as part of Le Good Society's Earth Month outdoor art exhibition.

Alongside his exhibition practice Andrew works on private commissions and has collaborated with a number of significant brands and organisations, including Bang & Olufsen and New Balance.
